BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS September 25-October 19
By Neil Simon. Part one of Neil Simon’s autobiographical trilogy: a portrait of the writer as a young teen in 1937 living with his family in a crowded, lower middle-class Brooklyn walk-up. Dreaming of baseball and girls, Eugene Jerome must cope with the mundane existence of his family life in Brooklyn: formidable mother, overworked father, and his worldly older brother Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche, her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters and Grandpa the Socialist and you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Simon-style. “… In many respects his funniest, richest and consequently the most affecting of his plays.” – New York Daily News “Hilarious comedy…His finest play…A delightful and enriching experience.” – CBS-TV
ALWAYS…PATSY CLINE November 6-30
Written and Developed by: Ted Swindley. Based on the true story of Patsy’s friendship with her most devoted fan, Louise Seger, this show chronicles the friendship which began when the two met at the Esquire Ballroom outside Houston. Over a pot of strong coffee, this unlikely pair of women became best friends and kept in touch until Patsy’s untimely death. Combining down home country humor, heartache and 27 of Patsy Cline’s unforgettable hits like “Anytime,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “She’s Got You,” and “Crazy,” this is sure to be the toe-tapping hit of the season!
THE WILDEST!!! HIP, COOL AND SWINGIN! , THE MUSICAL SOUNDS OF LOUIS PRIMA & KEELY SMITH
February 12-March 8
Conceived and written by Randy Johnson, Thomas Porras, Luanne Prima, and Toni Elizabeth Prima
Louis Prima and Keely Smith’s musical sound and style defined an era that has transcended generations and has become timeless in its appeal. Prima’s shuffle beat, combined with New Orleans Jazz and the wailing sax sound of Sam Butera was a precursor of the Rock & Roll sound of the 1950’s. The Wildest!!! arrives at a moment when Louis Prima, Keely Smith, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and other Las Vegas icons are being idolized as musical heroes. It captures a unique era – the nightclub years of the late 50’s and early 60’s.
Though Louis Prima passed away in 1978, artists as diverse as David Lee Roth and Brian Setzer brought Prima’s music to the top of the charts in the 80’s and 90’s. His music has been at the center of successful advertising campaigns in the 21st century for The Gap, Nike, Diet Coke, Fiat, General Electric and Target. And who can forget his 1967 legendary role as Orangutan King Louie in Walt Disney’s The Jungle Book. “From the opening medley of “Sing, Sing, Sing” and “When Your Smilin’,” the show pulses with the signature sound and style that Louis Prima and Keely Smith forged. It is a long overdue resurgence and The Wildest!!! is the ticket.”- Los Angeles Times.
I LOVED, I LOST, I MADE SPAGHETTI March 26-April 26
Adapted by Jacques LaMarre from the memoir by Gulia Melucci. Life is just a bowl of pasta! Giulia is a single New Yorker who really knows how to deliver in the one room where it counts — the kitchen. Publishing pro by day and domestic diva by night, she knows how to whip up mouth-watering Italian cuisine. Unfortunately, her prowess with pasta is not matched by her taste in men, who all seem to eat and run. Conjuring up a culinary masterpiece (cooking a three-course meal live on stage before our eyes) Gulia recounts stories about the men in her life and the meals that she made for them. Can she find Mr. Right or will she end up getting burned? A mouth-watering comedy, this deliciously hilarious play celebrates Italian home cooking as both an expression of love and a source of comfort when the romance goes cold.
FOOTLOOSE May 14-June 14
Music by Tom Snow, Lyrics by Dean Pritchord. Based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford.. Inspired by the 1984 movie, FOOTLOOSE thrilled Broadway audiences for nearly two years. It’s a story of American spirit. A carefree city teen, transplanted to a conservative rural town where rock ‘n’ roll and dancing are forbidden, takes on the authorities, makes all the right moves, and wins the girl. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
